Students of the Department of Information and Communication Engineering propose a helper service to achieve financial goals using banking apps. Enhancement of major and practical skills at the same time during participation in the project for 10 months [July 05, 2023] <Students of YU Department of Information and Communication Engineering receiving grand prize in “The 1st Korea Digital Talent Nurturing Project” and Deputy Director Kim Byung-chil of Financial Supervisory Service> (Photo provided by DGB Financial Group) YU students received grand prize in “The 1st Korea Digital Talent Nurturing Project - IT’s DGB, IM Challenger” hosted by DGB Financial Group. This is a project conducted to foster local digital talent and is a contest for financial-related services and product ideas applied with digital technology. It was hosted by DGB Financial Group and sponsored by the Financial Supervisory Service, Google, Microsoft, and Amazon Web Services (AWS).Beginning with the application process in September of last year, the teams that advanced to the final round were selected through preliminary evaluation of the proposal and evaluation of the presentation of the final round. The team advancing to the final round went through 4 weeks of AWS intensive training and 4 months of research projects in February of this year and held the final round on June 27 last year to announce the final research results. As the result, K2PSL team, composed of YU Department of Information and Communication Engineering students KIM Jae-beom, KANG Hyeon-joo, SOHN Hee-jung, PARK Si-hyeon, and LEE Su-yeon, won the grand prize. The winners of the grand prize are YU Information and Communication Engineering studentsreceive a prize of KRW 10 million and an opportunity to visit the AWS headquarters in the US. The idea proposed by YU students is “Sohwakhang,” a helper service for achieving financial goals using DGB Financial Group’s own app, IM Bank.In this service, when financial consumers set their own financial goals through a smartphone app, artificial intelligence creates a personalized quest (a task that users must perform in an online game) based on the consumer's financial information, “My Data.”It embodied the idea that consumers can fulfill this quest and eventually achieve their personal financial goals. It received good reviews for being able to achieve financial goals while enjoying it like a game through detailed quests created by artificial intelligence based on My Data. Student KIM Jae-beom of YU Department of Information and Communication Engineering said, I came up with the idea of how to use My Data to achieve my vague financial goals, and proposed “Sohwakhang.” During the research period of the project, technical advice from field experts of DGB Financial Group, who participated as mentors, was very helpful. We were able to set up and materialize the overall flow of ideas. We were able to develop not only our major skills but also our practical skills while working on the project for about 10 months. Meanwhile, “The 2nd Korea Digital Talent Nurturing Project - IT’s DGB, IM Challenger” will accept applications from August 1st.The application deadline is October 13 and the participants are university (graduate) students and young people (excluding the metropolitan area) nationwide. The award-winning team receives benefits such as tours to global corporate headquarters and preferential treatment when applying for jobs at DGB Financial Group.

The six areas consist of ▲ Greenhouse gas reduction, ▲ Climate change adaptation, ▲ Sustainable water conservation, ▲ Resource circulation, ▲ Pollution prevention and management, and ▲ Biodiversity conservation. Among the participants, YU, centered on the Department of Environmental Engineering (Professor JEONG Jin-young, in charge of the project), is responsible for fostering specialized talents centered on sustainable water conservation, pollution prevention, and management with government support of 6.92 billion won. YU is already making significant achievements in the field of cultivating talents in national water industry cluster and smart water industry through support from central government and local governments, and it is expected that this selection for the project will generate synergies in promoting the project to cultivate talents in the eco-friendly field.YU plans to create an eco-smart city convergence major and a microdegree related to the high-tech environmental industry and participating students will receive various benefits such as subsidies. The universities, industries, and public agents participating in this project will jointly utilize the innovative convergence university system, advanced practice rooms, and equipment and will carry out national project research and education together with local government, academia, industry, and research to solve problems in the six major areas of eco-up. In addition, they plan to maximize the effect of the project by simultaneously improving the system within the universities, such as operation of convergence and complex courses between disciplines (major) and flexibilization of the teacher and undergraduate system. President CHOI Oe-chool of YU said, “YU has been continuously selected for large-scale government support projects such as software-oriented university support projects. Play a role as an advance guard for small and medium businesses to enter the overseas market through overseas market research and buyer counseling, etc. Cultivation of trade experts by developing trade theory knowledge and on-site practical skills through systematic training courses Swept various trade-related contests and produced a large number of successful candidates in the customs officer exam [June 22, 2023] <Students of the 16th YU GTEP Project Team participate in Vietnam Viet Beauty Exhibition 2022 and explain the project to buyers> YU Regional Specialized Youth Trade Expert Training Project Team (GTEP Project Team) ranked first in the country in the 2022 (16th) performance evaluation.YU ranked first in the national university GTEP Project Team Evaluation for four consecutive years and was recognized for its unrivaled competence as a youth trade expert training university. GTEP Project Team is managed by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and Korea International Trade Association and is operated by 20 universities in the country including YU. Among them, YU GTEP Project Team ranked first in the 16th performance evaluation with the points of 96.2. Mean points of 20 Project Teams are 82.4 quite different from the points of YU GTEP Project Team. As the result of this performance evaluation, YU will receive an incentive of KRW 20 million for additional project expenses and, in the 17th project this year, will receive a total of KRW 170 million from the national treasury to operate the Project Team. <Activities of the students of the 16th YU GTEP Project Team participated in Hallyu Pop Fest Sydney 2022> Students of the 16th YU GTEP Project Team collaborated with small and medium enterprises in Korea, including companies specializing in exports in the Middle East, such as DNN Co., Ltd and Layun Korea Co., Ltd., and carried out export marketing tasks such as overseas market research, participation in overseas fairs, and consultation with buyers, playing a leading role in helping companies advance into overseas markets. They also swept major academic conferences and competitions related to trade held in 2022. They won a total of 5 awards including 2 grand prizes in “University Student FTA Utilization Conference,” “Undergraduate (Graduate) Student FTA Utilization Promotional Content Contest,” and “16th GTEP E-Commerce Contest” held by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and Korea International Trade Association this year with acceptance of expert and practical capability. The capability of the students of YU GTEP Project Team was also verified in expert certification exams. YU produced five successful applicants in the 39th customs officer exam in 2022 and three of them were from the GTEP Project Team. Considering that the customs officer exam is the most difficult of the trade-related certification exams, it is unusual for a single small business group to produce three successful candidates at once. Leader LEE Hee-yong of YU GTEP Project Team (Professor of Faculty of Foreign Trade) said, “The educational curriculum of YU GTEP Project Team is optimized to develop trade theory knowledge and on-site practical skills required by companies. We will strengthen industry-university cooperation with small and medium enterprises to provide students with various practical experiences and to provide trade experts to small and medium enterprises, making an exemplary case of industry-university cooperation.” Meanwhile, starting with the TI (Trade Incubator) project of the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Energy in 2002, YU has been carrying out the youth trade expert training project for 23 years, and is operating the 17th GTEP Project Team this year.
